There just aren’t enough great opportunities to share them, and I don’t want to pass one up.

When I look for math memes, I try to find images that are genuinely funny (a must), relatable and understandable for most elementary students (to each their own), introduce some math idea or principle (the kids have to learn somehow), and present math in a positive light.

Many math memes poke fun at math, suggesting that memes are needed to make math enjoyable or redeem it. I don’t like that perspective. It reinforces the idea that math is something to dread, and that students need jokes as a break from a negative experience. My hope is that Math-A-Thons and math memes can help build a positive association with math.

Memes that fit all those criteria are surprisingly rare, so below is a collection of my absolute favorites. They all reinforce the ideals I look for, and I thank the creators. I hope they bring you a few giggles.

You can really relate to the struggle in this one.
