11 Positive Math Memes That Will Make Your Teacher Smile

Math Meme Spiderman

Whenever I send an email about Math-A-Thons, I always include a math meme. There just aren’t enough great opportunities to share them, and I don’t want to pass one up.

When I look for math memes, I try to find images that are genuinely funny (a must), relatable and understandable for most elementary students (to each their own), introduce some math idea or principle (the kids have to learn somehow), and present math in a positive light.

Many math memes poke fun at math, suggesting that memes are needed to make math enjoyable or redeem it. I don’t like that perspective. It reinforces the idea that math is something to dread, and that students need jokes as a break from a negative experience. My hope is that Math-A-Thons and math memes can help build a positive association with math.

Memes that fit all those criteria are surprisingly rare, so below is a collection of my absolute favorites. They all reinforce the ideals I look for, and I thank the creators. I hope they bring you a few giggles.

Math Memes - Carry The One

You can really relate to the struggle in this one. It makes you wonder how you ever avoided this trap in grade school. The meme is very tall though and doesn’t work well in emails, but this one might just be worth it.

Math Memes - Star Wars

If you couldn’t remember the difference between radius and diameter, this meme will lock it in. And if you haven’t seen this lightsaber duel in a while, go ahead and check it out. I’ll wait.

Math Memes - Haircut

This is a newer one that I haven’t used in an email yet, but it hits all the right spots.

Math Memes - Live Dangerously

I’m not someone willing to risk doing math homework in pen, but I salute those who do. True risk takers.

Math Memes Watermelons

Both of my children’s names are used in math word problems in the ForOurSchool.org Math-A-Thon platform, and nothing brings them more joy than when they get those problems.

FUN FACT: The names in ForOurSchool.org word problems are randomly selected from top names across international cultures and nationalities.

Math Memes - Pi Cat

This one might be a challenge for some kids to understand, but kids love cats, so that’s something.

Math Memes - Math Rocks

This meme is not really funny, but it is harmless. Perfect if you need a filler.

Math Memes - Showed Work

Could this be the most used meme of all time? Maybe. But there’s no reason to stop now.

Math Memes - Born in 2000

As someone born in 1980, I can relate.

Math Memes -Calcu-NowThis one is more of a pun, but it involves dinosaurs, so it should be well received.

I wish I was a math person

UPDATE 1/24/2026: Had to include this gem. Thank you Howie Hua for pointing it out.

Hope these brought you some joy!
