If you are helping to run a Math-A-thon for your school or organization, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact on how students view your event and math in general. Math-A-Thon can be more than just fundraisers — they can give students a chance to develop a positive attitude toward math and practice it without the pressures of homework or tests. (There’s a reason they are our top rated school fundraising event!)
In the end, it’s up to the kids to decide whether they want to participate in your event,. However, two of the biggest decisions that will affect its success are the rewards and incentives you offer, and your marketing strategy. We’ve written extensively about the fundraiser reward systems we recommend, and below are sample emails that you can send before, during, and after your event to encourage participation, build excitement, and raise funds.
Note: These emails assume your event will be held in the summer over a 2-week period, with an ice cream party awarded to any grade that collectively solves 5,000 problems. Your event may differ, so you may need to tweak the emails to suit your needs.
1 Week Before School Ends
If you are hosting a Math-A-Thon over the summer, you should send at least one email before the school year ends to build anticipation and encourage early signups. Parents and students can print math worksheets before the event begins, giving students a chance to get ahead and stay occupied during long road trips.

The 3rd graders are blazing ahead with nearly 500 problems solved, but the 5th graders are not far behind with more than 400 under their belts. The 2nd and 4th graders clearly want to get into the fray as well with over 300 problems slain. And while the kindergarteners and 1st graders are early in their math adventures, they are poised for a big push with almost 200 problems polished off.
With each problem solved, students are getting closer to winning that ice cream party for their grade!
