When rounding numbers, the first step is to identify the place value you are rounding to. For example, if you are rounding to the nearest ten, the tens place is your focus
Next, break down the number into two parts: the digits up to your identified place, and the rest of the number. For example, if you’re rounding 68 to the nearest ten, decompose it into 60 (the tens place) and 8 (the rest)
Lastly, if the second part of your number starts with a 5 or more, round up. If it starts with a number that is less than 5, round down. In our example, 8 is more than 5, so we round 60 up to 70
