When multiplying numbers, it can be helpful to decompose each number on a place-value chart and then use an area model to determine the result
For example, if we have 6 x 15
- Decompose 15 into 1 ten and 5 ones
- Add 1 base ten blocks and 5 base one blocks to form an array with the 6 base one blocks
- Fill in the area with 6 x 1 base ten blocks and 6 x 5 base on blocks
- Add up the blocks, so 6 tens and 30 ones equals 90
