A fraction is made up of two parts: a numerator (the top number) and a denominator (the bottom number). When dividing a number by a fraction, decompose the number into smaller equal units equal to the value of the numerator and then place those units on a tape diagram. If the number of equal units is the value of the numerator, then select the same number of units as the denominator.
For example, if you want to divide 12 by 6/4:

- Decompose 12 into 6 equal units (2 in each unit)
- Select 4 of those units (8)
