The whole number part is how many times the denominator fits completely into the numerator.
The remainder becomes the numerator of the fraction, and the denominator stays the same.
For example, if we have 18 ÷ 14
14 fits into 18 one time (that’s the whole number part)
There are 4 left over, so the remainder becomes the numerator
