When adding hours to time, start by placing the hour value of the time on a number line that goes from 1 to 12. Move right on the number line for each hour you are adding and when you pass 12, go back to 1 and change the period from AM to PM or PM to AM.
For example, if you are adding 6 hours to 10:50 PM
- Start at 10 on the number line
- Move 3 spots to the right so you pass 12
- Go back to 1 and change the period from PM to AM
- Move right the remaining 4 spots
- 6 hours after 10:50 PM is 4:50 AM
